Memory manufacturer ProGrade Digital has revealed its latest pair of memory card readers, a brand new Thunderbolt 3 CFExpress/XQD card reader with “revolutionary” transfer speeds, and an updated dual-slot card reader that pairs an SD slot with CFExpress.
The headline grabbing reader of the two is definitely the “PG04,” which features a Thunderbolt 3 interface and compatibility with both CFExpress and XQD cards through a single slot. This card reader can reach speeds of up to 40Gb/s (5GB/s), allowing you to take better advantage of the new CFExpress Type B cards that are now floating around.
The PG05.5, meanwhile, is for those people who want more versatility, but are willing to sacrifice a little bit of speed. It replaces the PG05 dual-SD card reader, replacing one of the SD card slots with a CFExpress Type B slot that is not XQD card compatible. This reader isn’t quite as fast as the PG04, but the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface delivers a more than respectable 10Gb/s (1.25GB/s) transfer rate.
Both of the new card readers come with a patent-pending magnetic base and an adhesive metal plate that you can use to attach the reader to whatever work surface you find most convenient.
The ProGrade PG04 Thunderbolt 3 CFExpress/XQD card reader with its faster transfer speeds will run you $130, while the PG05.5 with the dual CFExpress and SDXC UHS-II card slots will cost $80. Both card readers are available to order staring today.
